Cheng Choon Yeow, 44, who is self-employed, allegedly plotted with a 55-year-old man to help three Chinese nationals leave the country on March 18. He is accused of taking them from Hougang MRT Station to the shore off Pasir Ris Park where they boarded a boat manned by the accomplice to the borderline of Singapore territorial waters to await the arrival of another vessel to bring them out of the country. If convicted, he faces a jail term of between two and five years and not less than three strokes of the cane. The three Chinese nationals have been arrested and charged. Only one has been dealt with. Cheng is out on $10,000 bail. His case was adjourned to May 8.
