Jailed for illegal import <!--10 min-->

</td></tr> </tbody></table> <!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--> TWO Thai drivers who imported 16 cases of chilled oyster meat into Singapore were each jailed for six months on Friday. Khamchoo Supajak, 30, and Phimphong Kiattipong, 34, earlier admitted to importing the 1,600kg of chilled oysters from Thailand without a permit through old Woodlands checkpoint on Jan 17. Immigration officers checked their Malaysian registered lorry after it had failed a mobile image analyst test. It was conveying a consignment of fresh fruit and vegetables and snakehead fish fillets from Thailand. On checking, officers found chilled oysters hidden below layers of fresh snakehead fish fillets.
The importation of fresh oysters from Thailand into Singapore is banned.
The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) only permits live oysters to be imported from eight countries - Australia, New Zealand, France, United States, Canada, Britain, Holland and Ireland. The men's lorry was seized. They could have been fined up to $50,000 and/or jailed for up to two years.
