Eric Heng Jit Siang, 33, is said to have deceived Mr Nandekar Kiran Kishan Rao into believing that he had a house in Monstone Lane in Serangoon for rent and induced him to deliver a month's rental deposit on March 30 last year.
Heng, who is believed to be involved in a series of rental cases since last April, was arrested by police in a stakeout early on Monday. A police statement said that preliminary investigations showed that the total amount cheated is believed to be more than $100,000. Heng would collect advance rental payments of up to 6 months from the victims - who were mainly Permanent Residents and foreigners looking for rental units - and then become uncontactable, the statement said. Heng was remanded at Tanglin police division. He will be back in court on Monday. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
