Women dies in toilet fire <!--10 min-->

</td></tr> </tbody></table><!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--> When Madam Wee Chiok took an unusually long time to come back from a toilet visit, her friend decided to check on her. She found a cubicle in the toilet at West Coast Park ablaze. Upon kicking open the door, she saw Madam Wee, 68, seated on the toilet bowl, with her whole body in flames. They were too strong for her friend and some passers-by to put out. Madam Wee, who had gone to the park with her friend last Friday, was pronounced dead by paramedics when they arrived after 8.30pm.
Two lighters and thinner were found in the toilet, according to a report in Chinese newspaper Lianhe Wanbao. It also quoted her friend as saying that Madam Wee had told her she had debt problems with loan sharks.
When The Sunday Times visited Madam Wee's four-room flat in Jurong West yesterday, no one was at home. According to Lianhe Wanbao, she lived with her son, daughter and daughter-in-law. A neighbour, who would give her name only as Madam Tina and who lives one floor below, said she saw Madam Wee at about 11am last Friday. 'Her hands were clasped together and she was looking down as she walked. She looked like she was troubled and in deep thought,' she said. Madam Tina recalled a time when her family was constantly awakened by the sound of loud, pounding footsteps and chairs being moved about in the middle of the night. That stopped after she spoke to Madam Wee's daughter about the matter.
