Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian threw down his greco-roman bronze medal in protest on Thursday after his bid for Olympic gold was ended by a decision denounced by the Swedish coach as "politics."

Abrahamian took the bronze from around his neck during the medal ceremony, stepped from the podium and dropped it in the middle of the wrestling mat then walked off.

I don't care about this medal. I wanted gold," he said.

spore wait 4 a medal is so long & hard.....yet tiz fellow just threw the medal he had won......mayb he can give it 2 spore????

I thought the French fencer who lost to the Italian fencer in the men's foil was bad enough. His face was like long black horse face all the way at the podium. Now this Swedish guy topped it all in bad sportsmanship. Should be banned from Olympics.

Someone from SG should go and pick it up, will save us a load of money instead trying to buy 1.

Haha. Good one.

Maybe can try search for it under the wrestling stage just in case the auntie sweeper swept it under the carpet.

Then S'pore will have 1 Silver and 1 Bronze from Beijing Olympic :p.

While it's poor sportsmanship...but we have to realise hw competitive these pple are....Esp if they are used to winning all the way and they feel that they should win. Maybe its not because he is angry with the competitors but himself? And he conduct himself in this manner in a fit of anger?

He was angry cos he felt the judges were unfair.

Actually to alot of ppl, only gold matters, no? =)

Yeah. Actually only gold medal matters. It's the one that gets the athelete onto the record books and his/her national athem played. Silver and Bronze are token consolations. We remember Mark Spitz and Ian Thorpes for winning gold medals. Do we remember who are the silver and bronze medalists losing to them?

Be that as it may, there're sporting etiquettes for losers to abide by. Winning is everything, but losing graciously is also part of the sport and sportsmanship.

well we know which country is going to harp on their silver medals even if they don't win one again for the next 48 years..:biggrin::biggrin:

No wonder they chose to play for Singapore instead of China. The pay is better and they get to be remembered and glorified just for a silver or bronze for a long long time.

In China, gold medalists get forgotten as quickly as new gold medalists are found. Only multi-gold medalists get some remembrance. Silver and bronze medalists are considered failures.

C'mon, since when are the Or-lum-pees about sportsmanship. If you watch the wrestling/boxing matches, they opponents truly harbour a grudge for one another. Four years of hard training comes down to this, and obviously emotions are going to run high. People take part for fame and glory, to join the 'tyranny of the elite'!

Yeah. That's the problem with countries winning too many gold medals. The value per medal is devalued.
