Edvantage - Glaring typo on university ad goes viral

University_criticised_for_glaring_typo-topImage.jpg

SINGAPORE - A spelling mistake on an old advertisement for the Nanyang Technological University has gone viral, after it was put up on Facebook on Tuesday.

In the print ad, the word "tomorrow" was misspelled as "tomorow". It had actually appeared in the Straits Times in 2007, but resurfaced recently after being shared on Facebook on Oct 11.

To date, the image has garnered more than 800 shares on Facebook. Netizens also shared the image on other social media networks like Twitter.

Some expressed embarrassment that a reputable university could make such a "glaring error". Others blamed the advertising agency involved and newspaper for not spotting the mistake.

A Stomp reader, who also stumbled across the image recently, said: "Now we know why the standard of English is low in Singapore.
"When the university itself can't spell, how can we expect its students to do so?"
