The police have arrested a 40-year-old man for making bomb hoax calls to the police emergency hotline '999'.
He had made an anonymous '999' call from a payphone on Oct 7 at 11.30am and claimed that there was a bomb in the vicinity of Clementi.
The call was found to be a hoax after security measures were carried out by officers from Clementi Police Division.
Ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect paid off when the suspect was traced and arrested in the vicinity of Clementi Street 13 on Oct 13.
Investigations revealed that he had made other similar bomb hoax calls on Oct 8 and Oct 13.
The suspect will be charged in court on Oct 14 for the offence of Breach of the Prohibition Against False Threats of Terrorist Acts under Regulation 8(1) of the United Nations (Anti Terrorism Measures) Regulations 2001 punishable under Sec 5(1) of the United Nations Act, Chapter 339.
He can be fined up to $100,000 or imprisoned up to 5 years, or both.
A court order will also be sought to remand the suspect for psychiatric assessment.
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) of Police Melvin Yong said making bomb threats is a serious offence.
"The police take all terrorist threats seriously and will deal sternly with those responsible for perpetuating such offences," he said.
