He was supposed to take part in a tunnel crawl as part of a game at the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
But three hours after taking part in the activity, Second Warrant Officer (2WO) Poh Eng Ann, 36, died.
The tunnel crawl involves a person crawling through the engine compartment of an F-5 fighter jet.
The entrance to the engine compartment is 48cm by 30 cm. Participants are to crawl on their side, five metres into the intake before crawling backwards in the game gap.
The activity on April 24, 2009, was part of team bonding games during the informal welcome ceremony for new or promoted staff at the Paya Lebar Air Base.
The tunnel crawl is considered a tradition during such ceremonies.
The court was told that 2WO Poh wars seen slouching on a sofa in the crew room at about 6pm. He looked pale and his head was tilted backwards.
When his colleagues failed to rouse him, they tried for 40 minutes to resuscitate him but he could not be revived.

He was taken to Changi General Hospital at around 7pm and pronounced dead 20 minutes later.
During a coroner's inquiry, the court was told that 2WO Poh suffered two ruptures to his liver. He had a pre-existing condition where his liver was severely enlarged because of fatty deposits.
A consultant forensic pathologist, Dr Wee Keng Poh, performed the autopsy on 2WO Poh and said a compression or knock to the lower chest or abdomen would have caused 2WO Poh's liver to rupture.
However, 2WO Poh did not appear uncomfortable during the crawl, and did not seem to have any difficulties doing it.
Dr Wee also said it was possible that the rupture could have been during the time that cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered on him.
The case has been adjourned to next Friday October 21 for the coroner to deliver his findings.
2WO Poh's wife told the media that she has not gotten over his death and seeks closure for the matter.

SAF is abusing expensive weapons of war, which are funded by tax dollars. This is crazy. No wonder the expenses so high. Spent our GDP into rubbish like this to rupture fatty liver? :oIo:

and

"When his colleagues failed to rouse him, they tried for 40 minutes to resuscitate him but he could not be revived."

If this is caused by a wrongly administered CPR, will the colleagues who resisucitated him be charged?

Imo, cannot be proven beyond reasonable doubt. If kenna charge then no one will be willing to help in future liao.

But the current report seems to imply that his collegues made the resuscitation efforts. Another ealier report said ".....a medical team from the Paya Lebar Air Base Medical Centre where doctors continued their attempts to resuscitate him".

So maybe "his collegues" in this report is referring to the "medical team from Paya Lebar Air Base Medical Centre" :*:

CPR can be fatal if administered wrongly. Even the electric shocks equipment (don't know the name) used for reviving those patients without heartbeats has to be used by trained medical professionals.
I really do not have much confident in SAF CPRs. Maybe the medics or firemen are OK.

If you got hold of TODAY's paper, there was a in depth article on the chain of events leading to the tunnel crawl. He drank beer mixed with stout as a punishment in an earlier game before the crawl. Asiaone's version is a summarised version.

Most probably he had an existing medial condition. Otherwise, beer mixed with stout is ok.

Worse is hard liquor mix with chilli, soya sauce and egg yoke. One guy in armee kenna, and had difficulty breathing....sent to medical station to vomit.

Harlo, this dead guy is really overweight lah ! I'm much taller than him and yet lighter than him (more muscular). All fats lah ! Before work, beer down the hatch. Lunchtime, beer down the hatch. Afternoon's tea break, beer down the hatch. After work, beer down the hatch again. You know why ? Duty free ! Cheap mah. Can die, you know. He's obese lah.

My guess is ... he had to lie down and he used lots of bull's and cow's strength to crawl that tunnel because he was too heavy (fat). The heart was overloaded (pumping very fast, cardio not fit). Chiong now ! Because high pressured blood rushes to the brain because the height of his heart and the brain is equal. Brain blood vessel burst ? Cannot lie down ! Must stay erected even when you rest. You will be surprise to see bodybuilders die when they do bench press. Why ? The same reason. Quite elementary.

My blood vessels have be strong - heavy weight training.

2WO Poh Eng Ann, who suffered from hepatitis, died of a ruptured liver in April 2009, but it is not yet clear how his liver ruptured.
